Face of the Farmer: Cattle Rancher

The Travioli family have been on their cattle ranch in the central San Joaquin Valley of California for many years. Curtis Travioli is the fourth generation and quite the inspiration for young adults going back into the family business of agriculture. He is a recent graduate of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (my alma mater, go Mustangs!).

He has come back to work with his family business and is also trying to start a new venture using an ultrasound to detect the meat quality before the cattle go to slaughter. It is a fairly rare technique used in California but he is approaching it with enthusiasm!

I was lucky enough to take some photos of them branding and vaccinating their cattle this month. It is the preservation of a way of life - the cowboy way- and a tradition in the family. Many friends and family get involved to help with the big job. Everyone was enjoying the day - including Grandpa overseeing the whole thing!

Even little baby Bradford was dressed for his first branding!
